வைரமுத்துவின் வரிகள்

பாடல் வரும் சந்தர்ப்பம்:
காதல் இருந்தும் காதலை வேண்டாம் என்று உதறிய காதலியின் வலி

எவனோ ஒருவன் வாசிக்கிரான்
இருட்டில் இருந்து நான் யாசிக்கிரேன்
தவம் போல் இருந்து யோசிக்கிரேன்
அதை தவனை முறையில் நேசிக்கிரேன்

(Vairamuthu opens in a very beautiful way. He starts by talking about the love in the girl's heart. Since she has decided that she does not need the hero's love she addresses him as 'எவனோ' meaning somebody unknown. She says somebody is playing with her heart. And she, even after knowing that is affected by him. Without being able to forget him she starts to like, in snatches, this feeling.)

கேட்டு கேட்டு நான் கிரங்குகிறேன்
கேட்பதை அவனோ அறியவில்லை
காட்டு மூங்கிலின் காதுக்குள்ளே
அவன் ஓதும் இரசியம் புறியவில்லை

I keep thinking of him. But he does not know what is going on in my mind. Similarly his feelings too are unknown to me. By his deeds and his soul stirring love for me, he has made me think about him and feel his pain. But I, knowing that my love will fail, make sure that he does not know that I actually miss him.
